Jerónimo (Geronimo) Armijo

Arizona and New Mexico Territory Map, circa 1867
Jerónimo Armijo was born September 30, 1869, in the United States of America's Territory of New Mexico. Little is known about Jerónimo's youth, but at the age of 17 years old, on January 24, 1887, in Mora County, he married María Florencia Garcia, a native woman who was a member of the San Juan Pueblo (Ohkay Owingeh) tribe, at Santa Gertrudis Church.

Making their home in Mora, Jerónimo and Florencia, also known as Mama Encha, had nine children together, their youngest child being Margarita born in June 1913. Mora was a relatively small community, with a peak population of nearly 14,000 residents in 1920.
