Guadalupe Lenore Partida was born the twin sister of Leo Partida on July 13, 1916 in Fort Worth, Texas. Guadalupe and Leo's parents were Francisco R. Partida, also known as Frank (circa 1887-Decemeber 14, 1916) and Mercedes Ledesma (1880-1935) of San Luis Potosí, Mexico. Frank and Mercedes were also parents of Francisco Partida (1909-1920), who was born in San Luis Potosí.
Sometime after 1910, Frank immigrated to the United States. On February 24, 1914, Mercedes, immigrated with her son Francisco to the United States, arriving from Nuevo Laredo, Mexico to Laredo, Texas. Guadalupe's father died in Texas at the age of 29 years old, five months after Guadalupe and Leo's birth. Soon after Francisco death, Mercedes and her three children moved to Los Angeles, California to live near Mercedes' cousins. On August 20, 1918 Mercedes married Francisco Ruben Baez in San Fernando, California. Francisco Baez adopted Mercedes' three children giving them his last name.
